About Jennifer

Ensuring style and accuracy in French to English translation

Meaning and style are all-important when it comes to creating high quality translations. A translator must combine a flair for writing and a love of language with the right expertise and qualifications. English is my mother tongue and I have lived, worked and studied in England, South Africa, France and Canada.

My passion for languages and a love for French language and culture led me to become an accredited freelance translator. My meticulous approach to translation and my proven skill with writing have allowed me to work with a long and still-growing list of happy clients.

Qualifications

I have a Master’s Degree in French Literature, specialising in Translation, a First Class Honours Degree in French Literature and a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Humanities from the University of Cape Town.

I am also a qualified English teacher and for over two years I taught advanced composition, presentation skills and business writing to adults when I lived in Grenoble, France.

I have years of experience with translation and editing, specialising in legal, business, marketing and news-related fields. I have completed a wide range of general and more technical translation assignments, including news articles, novels, press releases, contracts, meeting reports, promotional texts, government strategy papers, research reports, certificates, biographies, affidavits, academic transcripts, CVs, business permits and reference letters, among many others. I translate exclusively into English, as a professional translator translates only into their mother tongue.

Translation Project Management

I have two years of experience with translation project management, involving customer liaison and coordinating teams of translators working on large projects.

Translating any document requires thorough knowledge of the subject matter, so if I find that a text is better suited to another translator, I will offer to recommend one from an international network of professional language practitioners who I have worked with over the years.

Ensuring style and accuracy in French to English translation

What are your turn-around times?

Depending on the subject matter and the size of the translation assignment, I translate between 1500 and 2500 words per day. I will be able to provide an accurate turnaround time after assessing a document.

What’s your policy on confidentiality?

I treat any documents and information I receive as confidential, and I can also provide, or sign, a non-disclosure agreement if preferred.

What are your rates and payment terms?

The charge for a translation is worked out according to a rate per word for the number of words in the source text (the original French document). The per word rate depends on the length of the translation, the type of document to be translated and also the complexity or technicality of the language.
